SEASON'S GREETINGS

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all my blog followers a Very Happy Christmas and all the best for 2017.
As such I have not been all that active this past year on my blog, I hope to improve on this next year. I need to get into the darkroom and develop around 30 rolls of film that have been in my fridge for nearly two years now, then get some prints done and posted on here.

Kind Regards

BERLIN

Back in 1979-80 I was based in Berlin with the British Army at Montgomery Barracks (Kasserne) in Kladow. Berlin is a beautiful City, perhaps the best city in the world (if not then certainly one of the greatest) I know this area around the Blau Kirche.
My thoughts and prayers this morning go out to those killed, injured and their families and friends.

THE SOMME - GHOST SOLDIERS EVENT

This is a very emotive, moving and sad event, but it is original and a fitting tribute to remember our fallen from this terrible battle/campaign. Who ever thought of this should receive the highest praise and credit, an exceptional re-enactment and piece of public art and theatre.

LEST WE FORGET - THE BATTLE OF THE SOMME

Three monochrome photographic prints from the wonderful Fountains Abbey. A fitting subject to remember the true cost of war on the eve of the worst battle of WWI (some 100 years later) and the bloodiest day in the British Army's history.

Rest in Peace Lads.

Fountains Abbey, near Ripon, North Yorkshire, England.

ABSTRACT SEPIA AND SELENIUM TONED PRINT

This is one of my own favourite photographic prints. It's of a burnt out car's door, which over a short period of time due to the fire, salt water and weather has weathered in this majestic pattern. The resulting photographic print was then sepia and selenium toned which has increased the tonal depth and added to the print.

This particular print was not done by me. It's from a set of prints that Photo Box did.

Saltfleetby, Lincolnshire, England.

DOTS ...

Dots, to be more precise - 'black dot's.' Are they on the horizon, in the sky or what? The answer is quiet simple really (I will leave it at that).

NISSEN HUT

The detail in this monochrome photographic print is particularly good, showing the texture in the corrugated steel (the rust) and the old wooden window frame.

These buildings are becoming more and more rare. They originate from the First World War, where they were extensively used. Designed by an Officer of the Royal Engineer's, Nissen was his surname.

Near Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England.

POPPY FIELD

When first looking at this colour photographic print I thought it's either me or the film at fault? It turns out that it was the film. I was given forty rolls of Kodak colour negative film (well past their best by date) by someone and this was the first roll that I took and had developed.

Saying that sometimes mistake's can turn out to be fine. I think the above image could be viewed has a painting, due to the film having this under-exposed and misty type effect. And no I did not use any filters on my camera lens (apart from the usual skylight filter to protect the lens).

HURRICANE - WARRIOR

This is a working example of the British Hurricane Fighter plane used during WWII. There were more Hurricane's actually involved in the pivotal 'Battle of Britain' during the Second World War than 'Spitfire's.'

IN SAFE HANDS

The RNLI Humber Lifeboat carrying out practise drills with a Sea King Helicopter from the RAF Search & Rescue Station at Leconfield. Sadly no longer because of changes this service no longer exists.

This was the final roll of film for one of my cameras (due to damage done by salt-spray residue).

BEAUTIFUL BRUCE

Sometimes our lives are enriched with sharing it with beautiful creatures like 'Bruce' depicted here. Sadly he passed away many years ago now. He was my sister's dog (a long-haired German Shepherd / Alsatian). He had the most wonderful nature. Gone but never forgotten.

SILVER RIVETS - REFLECTIONS & DENTS

This series of colour photographic prints is from a visit to the American Air Museum at Duxford. The aircraft depicted is an American WWII B-24 Liberator. The Imperial War Museum is also located here, as well has the Royal Anglian Regiment Museum (many moons ago I served in the 2nd Battalion of this Regiment).

Well worth a visit and a day out, especially in the summer has they have regular air shows, with vintage and WWII aircraft.

Another example of a monochrome photographic print changed/altered by toning it. In this case a blue toned one. This is a simple two bath wet process.

TICKING AWAY

With a clock and a couple of small mirror tiles. This 3 times zoomed exposure is based on the lyrics, songs and music of Pink Floyd. In particular the track 'Time' from TDSOTM. It was was an experimental in-camera shot, just repeating the same shot 3 times by zooming out and keeping the film on the same negative frame each time.
